AFC West

Goal2Go-AFC West

Broncos

So the Tebow Mania has finally settled down so let's focus on everything else. I don't think this is very good football team. I think if the line holds up Orton and Moreno can both put up good numbers and the offense will be ok. The problems lie in a banged up D that wasn't better than average to begin with. Multiple Injuries on the D-Line and to THE LB Corps will make stopping anyone a true challenge. Andrew Luck anyone??

Chargers

I know many people are picking this to be a Superbowl team but I'm not sold. The talent has been there for years and yet they always come up short. Maybe the all too perfect SoCal weather is too relaxing because this team seems to lack hunger and drive to ever get over the hump!

Raiders

Maybe toughest division for me to pick a winner. This team's pass defense and owner are the only two things holding them back. A great tandem of backs combined with an above average QB and potentially one of the best receiving corps in all of football will make this offense fun to watch. But can they stop the pass??? I think letting a legitimate shutdown corner walk will prove to be disastrous for this team. But if one of the remaining corners can step up and fill the void I wouldn't be surprised to see these top two teams flipped.

Chiefs

Defending AFC West Champs are lead by a top tier Defense dangerous Special Teams and a strong running game. Matt Cassel's health is a big concern and with a Week 2 matchup with the QB hunting Detroit Lions the Chiefs O-Line must keep Cassel clean so his ribs can heal before cold weather hits and everything hurts more. Like I stated before this is gonna be a great race for the AFC West title. Besides my homer eye being on the NFC North this will prolly be the race that I'm most intrigued by.

AFC South

Goal2Go-AFC South

I'm sure you've all heard the talking on ESPN and NFL Network give you all the right answers about who's Superbowl bound and who's destined for a breakout year but I'm here to give it to you from a real fans point of view. I may not qualify as an ESPN Insider like Adam Shefter or an NFL expert like Michael Irvin but I do know football in particularly the NFL. So here in the blogasphere I'll call Goal2Go I'll share my thoughts on all things NFL related. To kickoff the 2012 season I'll keep it simple and breakdown my picks for each division and maybe share a few of my gems for your fantasy teams. So let's get right into it with the division in the headlines the last couple of days the AFC South.

Heading into the preseason I felt this was a division with one playoff spot basically between 2 teams: Colts and Texans. Now with the Jags playing bottom line football and a Manningless Colts team I feel this is Houston's division to lose. Here's how I break each team down:

Bottom to Top

Colts

Now I reserve the right to move the Colts up a lil if Manning comes back sooner than I think I he will because he is the single most important player to his team in all of football. If Kerry Collins has to play more than 2 or 3 games this team is in BIG trouble and the worst part is if Collins goes down before Manning is ready the other options give them no chance to compete. The offensive line is young and will take time to gel and the defense has been average at best. Not a recipe for success without the Rifle-armed pitchman.

Jags

The Jags have been a tough out for several years but I feel they have taken a huge step back by releasing one of the leagues more consistent starting QBs. Luke McCown will play place keeper until Rookie Blaine Gabbert is ready to take over. I always hate when teams make financial choices regarding good football players. Don't be surprised if in the next couple of years if MJD and Marcedes Lewis head to more stable situations.

Titans

So they locked up CJ...finally!! Now Hasselback will try to keep this offense competitive will they groom Locker. I think receiver is the glaring weakness on the offensive side. Aside from Britt and some talented TEs the Titans don't have much in the way of pass catchers. I would like to see 2nd year return guy Mariani get some more playing time at WR. He was a valuable receiver at Montana so his hands aren't a question and his playmaking skills are without question. I don't foresee it but if this defense comes along and the offense is serviceable the Titans can be troublesome for........

Texans

The last couple of years this team has gotten closer and closer to the Colts. Even before the Manning situation as had them overtaking the reigning division Champs. The addition of CB Joseph will do wonders to shore up this teams weakest link. If Foster can get healthy sooner rather than later I think the Texans will compete for the top spot in the conference. They have a QB on the verge of joining the elites and an unquestioned Top 5 WR. I think Houston finally gets over the hump and contends.
